The fun of planning its own school trip. Plan digitally, experience analog.
The website sCHoolmaps.ch helps teachers bring Swiss geodata into the classroom in a dynamic and cross-disciplinary way. A new teaching module supports the planning of school trips. Using the swisstopo app and guided tasks, students not only learn how to read maps, but they also take charge of organizing their own journey.
From plan to adventure
The class works in groups, each preparing a proposal for the school trip. Using the swisstopo app, the students are able to meet the requirements for a given time and selected location. The trip can focus either on sporting activities or a cultural programme and include additional information on a picnic spots or accommodation. Later, the students vote on the best proposal and choose the final destination from among their classmates' presentations.
Alignment with Swiss Teaching Plans
The new lesson is designed in accordance with Lehrplan 21 for German-speaking students, Plan d’études romand for the Romandy and Piano di studio della scuola dell’obbligo for the canton Tessin. Students strengthen their skills in orientation—both in the physical environment and in digital and virtual spaces. An important component is learning to independently select and evaluate media and data, use them as sources of information for an own learning, and apply them to create and present their work.
The offer is suitable for Cycle 2 and Cycle 3.
