INSPIRE ATOM and OpenSearch download services discontinued
The previously offered INSPIRE ATOM/OpenSearch download services have been removed from the Federal Spatial Data Infrastructure (FSDI). The corresponding datasets remain fully available for download via the STAC API REST interface.
Why was this change necessary?
The INSPIRE ATOM/OpenSearch download services are based on older technologies that are no longer further developed. They were replaced by more modern, API-based solutions. With the STAC API, the Federal Geoportal adopts a widely used open standard that enables more efficient data queries, better automation and faster integration into GIS workflows.
Which datasets are affected by?
The following INSPIRE datasets provided by swisstopo can now be accessed via the STAC API:
INSPIRE and its implementation in Switzerland
INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) is an EU initiative aimed at creating a harmonised spatial data infrastructure.
There is no direct legal obligation for Switzerland to implement the directive. However, the Federal Act on Geoinformation (Geoinformation Act, GeoIA) can be considered an INSPIRE-compatible implementation and legal basis.
All INSPIRE-categorised datasets remain available in the map viewer map.geo.admin.ch under the theme “INSPIRE”.
