The test.map.geo.admin.ch website has been deactivated

The website test.map.geo.admin.ch was launched in January 2024 as a test version of the Swiss federal geoportal map.geo.admin.ch. It allowed users to explore and test the new map viewer ahead of the official update in June 2024.

As of september 2025, the test version is no longer available. All of its features have been integrated into the main website map.geo.admin.ch.

Should a new testing phase be needed in the future, the test site will be reactivated and the users will be notified accordingly.

  If you have a short link to a drawing on test.map.admin.ch and want to restore it, you must use the development tool in your browser. We will explain how to do this step by step.
  Please follow these instructions:

  To open the developer tool:

  • Open a new window and open the developer tool in it. You can open it in three different ways, depending on the configuration of your browser/keyboard:
    1. Press the F12 key
    2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+I
    3. In the additional options (the three dots on Edge and three lines on Firefox in the top right-hand corner of the browser), click on ‘More tools’ and then on ‘Developer tools’
  • Copy the short link from test.map.geo.admin.ch into the search window and refresh the page with the developer tools open. The geo.admin.ch page with the announcement that test.map.geo.admin.ch has been deactivated should open.
  • In the top bar of the developer tools, click on “Network”. Under the “Name” column, click on the first item and a window will open to the right of the column.
  • Click on “Headers” in the column. Under “Response Headers”, you will see the “Location” bar with the original long link test.geo.admin.ch of your short link.

  To save your drawing on map.geo.admin.ch:

  • Copy the test.map.geo.admin.ch long link from the developer tools and open it in a new window in your browser.
    Please note: Before loading the page, remove the ‘test.’ part so that the page opens with ‘https://map.geo.admin.ch/...’.
    The page with your drawing should open on map.geo.admin.ch. However, this is identified by the system as an external drawing. You cannot edit or forward it.
  • To save your drawing, you must make a copy of it. Open the Measure & Draw tool and make a small change to the drawing. For example, you can add a symbol and then remove it. This will generate a copy of the drawing and you can click on the ‘Share’ button to copy a new edit link.

  This saves your drawing on map.geo.admin.ch and allows you to continue editing it.
  Don't forget to save it in a safe place.
