The coordination of geographical information within the Federal Administration is under the strategic direction and management of the coordinating agency for Federal geographical information, GCG. The same is true for the geo.admin.ch information technology platform for geographical information.

Art. 48 of the Geoinformation Ordinance (GeoIV) GeoIV stated “A coordinating agency as defined in Art. 55 of the Federal Act of 21st March 1997 on the organisation of government and administration will be set up for the coordination of Federal geographical information.

It will consist of at least one representative of each relevant department, of the Federal Chancellery, from among the Federal Institutes of Technology and the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. Each such authority will appoint its own representative.

The practical implementation of the strategy for geo.admin.ch laid down by the GCG is the responsibility of the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo.
