Geodata made easy: Joint project of and BFH as civicChallenge finalist.
The civicChallenge initiative aims to give new impetus to innovation in public administration. With a competition, it provides selected innovators with the necessary resources to develop a functioning prototype.

For laypersons, getting started using the services of can sometimes be difficult. A project team consisting of students from the Bern University of Applied Sciences and David Oesch, project manager from the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo, has set itself the task of breaking down this barrier with its project «Geodata made easy»: It provides an intuitive user interface that allows users to convert any address into coordinates and display them as points on the map with just a few clicks. But the project goes one step further: The implementation serves as a template for how any website can tap into swisstopo's immense pool of data. The project is «self-contained» and can be integrated into any website with little effort.

The project was chosen as a finalist of the civicChallenge 2022.
