Map of vegetation conditions based on the VHI (Vegetation Health Index) derived from satellite data (AVHRR, VIIRS, Landsat 4,5,7-9, and Sentinel-2) at different spatial resolutions summarized at an aggregated resolution of ten meters. The VHI consists of two components: one part (VCI - Vegetation Condition Index) reflects the local biophysical characteristics of vegetation, and the other part (TCI - Thermal Condition Index) characterizes climatic conditions (temperature). Both parts represent the current situation relative to a reference period. The VHI is combined for assessing drought - the lower the value, the stronger the drought and its impact on vegetation. The dataset was developed in collaboration with MeteoSwiss for the Federal Drought Portal.Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data.

swissEO S2-SR: Optical satellite data (Sentinel-2)

Optical satellite data (Sentinel-2) which show the land surface reflectances of the four channels red, green, blue and near infrared in a spatial resolution of ten metres. Switzerland is fully imaged approximately every three days, but the usefulness of the data is depending heavily on meteorological conditions, as the imaging sensor cannot see through clouds. In addition to the already applied registration of the data, a co-registration of the data optimised for Switzerland is applied for sub-pixel positional accuracy and the data is delivered in a uniform projection. Also included are optimised quality layers with masks for clouds ( and cloud shadows) and topographic shadows.Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data.

Groundwater heat utilisation potential

The thermal energy stored in groundwater can be used for heating purposes. With groundwater heat pump systems, the heat can be extracted from the groundwater and transferred to the heating system. The potential of groundwater for heating is large and can be estimated. The groundwater heat utilisation potential in Switzerland's unconsolidated aquifers was estimated using a heat balance approach. This involves determining the usable heat from a simplified heat balance, taking long-term changes into account. The groundwater is considered an open system, i.e. heat is exchanged with the atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere. The calculated heat utilisation potential is regarded as heat that can be used sustainably in the medium term. It should be noted that only the potential for heat recovery from groundwater was taken into account; any utilisation for cooling purposes or seasonal heat storage was not considered. Existing utilisation plants were also not taken into account. The basis for the calculation was provided by the cantons and the federal government. The geodata set "Groundwater heat utilisation potential in Switzerland's unconsolidated aquifers" shows the maximum sustainable heat that can be extracted from groundwater in the medium term.

Geochemical soil atlas of Switzerland: Magnesium

Interpolated element concentrations (mg/kg fine soil) in the topsoil (0-20 cm) of Switzerland. For the Ordinary Kriging interpolations (1 km x 1 km), measurement data from a total of 1,201 sites of the Swiss Biodiversity Monitoring, the National Soil Monitoring and the European Geochemical Soil Atlas were taken into account. The element concentrations were analyzed in aqua regia digests (HNO₃:HCl:H₂O) of dried (40°C), sieved (< 2 mm) and subsequently ground soil samples using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Sites with known anthropogenic overprinting of element concentrations (point sources) were excluded in advance. The results of the geochemical soil atlas are a snapshot of the element concentrations in the topsoils of Switzerland (sampling period 2011-2015). The interpolated maps serve to improve the visualization of regions with elevated or low concentrations. However, no plot-specific information or definitive conclusions on the geology, bioavailability, percentage distribution of geogenic and anthropogenic sources or soil contamination can be derived from them. Solar irradiation on a horizontal surface

The irradiation maps show the solar radiation on a south-facing surface for four different inclinations: Horizontal, 30°, 75° and 90°. The data is based on Switzerland-wide modelling with a horizontal grid width of 50m. It is based on measurement data from the period 2000-2020 and the influence of the horizon was derived from a 10 m resolution elevation model of Switzerland and neighbouring countries. In addition to the global radiation, the expected photovoltaic production per kW of installed capacity is also shown for the respective irradiation levels. The data can serve as an initial estimate of potential PV production. However, depending on local conditions and system design, the value may be higher or lower. For example, any additional yields resulting from the use of bifacial modules were not taken into account. Under "Additional information", the monthly values of global radiation (per m2) and expected photovoltaic production (per kW of installed capacity) can be queried for each grid point. The term "plug-in vehicle" refers to battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). If only battery electric vehicles are meant, they are explicitly mentioned as such. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEV) are not plug-in vehicles. The data set contains passenger cars. The vehicles are aggregated to municipalities and cantons based on the owner address. The development of new registrations, the number of existing vehicles and the electricity consumption of plug-in vehicles in Switzerland are based on the common industry assumptions of the SFOE study "Understanding charging infrastructure 2050" and the technology scenario of the EBP Electric and Hydrogen Mobility Scenarios 2023 (ZERO-E scenario). This is a scenario with rapid development of plug-in vehicles for the years 2023 to 2050. The data is based on historical vehicle data (ASTRA) as at 2022. Note: The charging demand in an area therefore differs from the electricity demand of the registered plug-in vehicles in this area.
