Geoinformation as a tool for monitoring the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 9

Investment in sustainable infrastructure and in scientific and technological research increases economic growth, creates jobs and promotes prosperity. Goal 9 therefore aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote industrialisation and foster innovation. Geoinformation provides valuable basic data for this purpose.

On the one hand, geoinformation provides important basic data for observing the current status and development of, for example, transport infrastructure, population and job distribution, service locations, mobility and spatial distribution of innovation over time. Furthermore, the descriptive visualization of data and information (and also the possible combination of different data sets) on maps opens up the possibility to quickly and easily understand, analyze and also disseminate this information.
