Track the local concentration of ash and birch pollen in real time (MeteoSwiss)

Thanks to a pilot phase of MeteoSwiss, it is possible this year to follow in real time where the pollen load is and how high it is. The concentrations of 7 different pollen species (including ash and birch) are measured once an hour at 5 stations in Switzerland and are then available in real time, i.e. after a few minutes.

For many people with allergies, the time of allergy symptoms has begun. The triggers of pollen allergy in March and April are ash and birch pollen. Ash pollen has been in the air since mid-March. In Ticino, the birch pollen season has also already begun.

Reference pollen measurements are carried out manually all over the world. With this method, the daily values are available every Wednesday and can be viewed at www.pollenundallergie.ch.

MeteoSwiss also measures pollen data in this way. Since recently - initially in a pilot phase - the concentrations of 7 different pollen species at 5 stations in Switzerland are additionally measured with a finer temporal resolution. The data are then available in real time, i.e. after a few minutes.

The present map shows the pollen concentration for ash in the gradation "none" to "very strong" in real time.
