The vision and objectives of geo.admin.ch cover all of the institutional arrangements, activities and technical developments needed to establish an information technology platform for Swiss geospatial data and information in accordance with the new Geoinformation Act (GeoIG). The vision of geo.admin.ch encompasses the creation of the conditions necessary for the establishment of the national spatial data infrastructure, the improvement of electronic collaboration between the parties involved and the optimisation of the resulting services and their electronic integration through successful networking.

The BGDI supports the federal offices by setting up WMS services. You can freely use the following examples and integrate them into any GIS system.

Web Map Tiling Services

A WMTS service does not offer the flexibility of free scale selection; it offers instead faster loading/transmission time by using static tiles with fixed and discrete scales. This fixed structure of tiles allows the use of a WMTS service with a web server that simply retrieves the available files. This tile architecture also allows the use of standard network mechanisms for scalability such as distributed cache systems.
