geo.admin.ch: the geoportal of the Swiss Confederation
The federal geodata portal is a publicly accessible platform for geographical information, data and services. Geographical information consists of geographically and spatially referenced data. It describes the characteristics of a country or region in the form of coordinates and place names.

Who uses geodata and geoinformation?
60 to 80 per cent of all decisions affecting citizens are linked to geographical information.
Transport, energy, protection of nature and the environment, agriculture and forestry, development planning, land regulations, information technology and telecommunications, education and culture, insurance, health provision, national defence, internal security, civil defence and disaster prevention, utility supplies and waste disposal: geographical information is becoming ever more important in all aspects of life.
geo.admin.ch is a platform for location-based information, data and services. These are made available by public-sector organisations and are accessible to the general public via the Internet, at geo.admin.ch.
